UN raises alarm on 'catastrophic' hunger in besieged Gaza

The United Nations has raised the alarm on the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza, many parts of which are on the brink of famine.

Almost half a million people are still experiencing “catastrophic” hunger in Gaza, with famine still a high risk, a United Nations-backed assessment found Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the territory’s health ministry raised the death toll to 37,658. Many more are believed to be beneath the rubble.

Meanwhile, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin met his Israeli counterpart Yoav Gallant at the Pentagon on Tuesday, warning that a conflict between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah could spark a regional war and urging a diplomatic solution.
