Israeli forces ramped up their offensive in Gaza killing at least 23 Palestinians since dawn on Wednesday in several areas of the enclave, according to medical sources on the ground.
The strikes come amid renewed Israeli attacks in Gaza City and northern districts, where plumes of smoke could be seen rising from Jabalia Camp after intense bombardment.
Israeli warplanes targeting the Hassouna family home on Al-Nafaq Street killed at least 10 Palestinians and three others were killed and others were injured when forces bombed a house in Al-Sha’af area. Israeli artillery targeted the home of the Al-Shawaf family in the town of Abasan Al-Kabira, east of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip, without causing any casualties.
Gaza’s Government Media Office reported a death toll of over 61,700 Palestinians killed, as thousands remain buried beneath the rubble.
The military wing of Hamas announced that contact had been lost with the group guarding US-Israeli captive soldier Edan Alexander, believed to be in an area targeted by Israel’s direct bombardment. The fate of Alexander, taken captive in 2023 alongside more than 200 others, remains unknown.
On Saturday, the Qassam Brigades released a video showing Alexander alive, in which he criticised Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government for failing to secure his release.
Israel’s military confirmed over the weekend that it had seized a new corridor in Gaza as part of a broader strategy to carve up the besieged territory, sparking fears of renewed mass displacement and an even deadlier phase of the war.
