Hamas said it accepts the UN’s ceasefire resolution, and is ready to negotiate over details with the parties involved.
Hamas said it accepts a UN Security Council ceasefire resolution, and is ready to negotiate over the details, senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri told Reuters on Tuesday, adding that it was up to Washington to ensure that Israel abides by it.
Abu Zuhri said the group “accepts the UN security council resolution in regard to the ceasefire, withdrawal of Israeli troops and swap of hostages for detainees held by Israel”.
“The U.S. administration is facing a real test to carry out its commitments in compelling the occupation to immediately end the war in an implementation of the UN Security Council resolution,” Abu Zuhri added.
The US-drafted Security Council resolution was approved following a vote late on Monday.
Despite the announcement, Israel continued to strike the enclave, and neighbouring territories. At least 11 people have been killed in Gaza City overnight and early on Tuesday after the Israeli military carried out separate strikes on a residential building in the Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood.
Most of those killed were children, according to reports.
Al Jazeera said that civil defence crews were searching for more victims under rubble.
Israeli forces overnight struck a Hezbollah convoy in Hermel district, northeastern Lebanon, killing three members of the group.
Britain-based war monitor the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said a total of five people were killed in the Israeli strike, with the casualties being Syrian and Lebanese.
