35,000 Palestinians displaced by Israeli assault on West Bank

Thousands of Palestinians have been displaced by Israel’s ongoing assault on the occupied West Bank, dubbed ‘Operation Iron Wall’, as uncertainty over phase two of Gaza ceasefire negotiations arises.

Around 35,000 Palestinians have been displaced by the assault, according to Al Jazeera, which has expanded from the city of Jenin and its refugee camp to encompass other cities including Tulkarm and the Nur Shams refugee camp, as well as Tubas and the Fara’a refugee camp and Tamun.

As Israel continues its assault on the occupied West Bank, uncertainty prevails around upcoming talks for phase two of a ceasefire for Gaza.

During a cabinet meeting on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly said that the war on Gaza has not ended, noting the ceasefire is only temporary and his government will decide when it finishes.

Phase two negotiations were set to begin on 3 February, but were delayed after Netanyahu travelled to the US to meet with President Donald Trump, where he unveiled plans for the occupation of Gaza and forced expulsion of its citizens.
